Odegaard to Rennes off

A proposed loan move of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid to Rennes has been cancelled due to the player’s age and the possible FIFA embargo.

It had been suggested that 17-year-old Odegaard would spend the season in Ligue 1 but as he doesn’t turn 18 until December, Rennes advisor Mikael Silvestre, said Los Blancos had gotten cold feet.

“Odegaard isn’t coming this summer due to a question of age. He’ll turn 18 in December. Real Madrid don’t want to take risks. They’re still under the threat of a FIFA penalty, and are awaiting the outcome of an appeal. He can go on loan to another Spanish club, but won’t come to Rennes,” Silvestre told RMC, AS reports.
