Villarreal have been handed a tricky tie in Friday’s Champions League playoff draw as awaiting them are French giants Monaco.
Villarreal and Monaco both qualified for the playoff phase via the League route, having finished fourth in La Liga and third in Ligue 1 last season respectively.
Monaco were Valencia’s opponents in the playoffs last season, although Leonardo Jardim’s side were beaten 4-3 by Los Che over two legs.
Other standout ties see Porto and Roma lock horns, while Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City take on Romanian outfit Steaua Bucharest.
The first legs will be played across August 16-17, with the return fixtures lined up for a week later.
