Monchi: Sevilla have lost heartbeat

Monchi admits Sevilla ”have lost their heartbeat” after former captain Coke left for Schalke on Sunday.

Coke was granted a farewell Press conference by Sevilla a day after his departure, in which he revealed he would always carry the Andalusians close to his heart, and Monchi confessed he was “wrong” to sell the player.

“It’s a difficult day because [Coke] was a key player in our recent achievements and an important one,” the sporting director noted.

“It’s clear that I wasn’t successful in this deal. I was wrong to make this sale because we’ve lost the heartbeat of the team.”

The right-back added: “The fans, their heart and eating snails with a beer will stay with me, and the Sanchez Pizjuan will remain a temple because no other stadium is so great.

“I’ll remember the many times in the many parts of Europe and Spain in which [Sevilla] overcame tough matches. The two goals I scored in the Europa League final are an anecdote.

“I’m experiencing very mixed feelings, strange ones. Today begins a new stage [in my career], but I’ll always wear my red and white shirt underneath.

“I want to be remembered as someone who gave everything to this team. Viva Sevilla!”
