Suarez ‘always watched Iniesta’

Denis Suarez cited Andres Iniesta as an example as he was unveiled by Barcelona after completing his return from Villarreal.

Barca exercised their option on Suarez to bring the midfielder back to Camp Nou and at his presentation, he was asked about the players to whom he looks up.

“I’ve always watched Iniesta, who is an example to young people. His behaviour is exquisite. He wasn’t an undisputed starter but he’s gained that. He’s one of my idols and I can train with him, in his best positon. I can offer versatility,” he said, AS reports.

“Everyone wants to be his replacement. He and I play in a similar position and hopefully one day I can accomplish what he has, but it’s not easy. I improved a lot with both Sevilla and Villarreal. At Sevilla I improved tactically and physically and I enjoyed my football at Villarreal. But now I’m at Barcelona, the best team in the world.

“I come to contribute as much as possible and to win as many trophies as possible. The best players are here and they make you better. The important thing will be to get minutes and make them good ones.

“I always had the confidence of the club and the coaches. When I was loaned out, Barca always had people following me. That motivated me. I could have come back last year but it didn’t happen. Villarreal was important, with a lot of minutes, and I always backed myself to return.

“There were options of other teams but I always said my desire was to play for Barca. I’m here, where I’ve always wanted to be. My number? It’s not a priority, but Xavi’s No 6 would be nice.”
