Neymar has apologised to his Brazilian compatriots after an explicit post on Instagram was interpreted as a criticism of the national team.
Brazil were eliminated from the Copa America group stage on Monday after defeat to Peru, which prompted Dunga’s dismissal and Neymar to write a foul-mouthed rant on Instagram, the Barcelona forward having already drawn the ire of his people for going on holiday instead of participating in the tournament.
“My five minutes in Brazil [after his holiday] were enough for me to realise that my post on Instagram had a huge negative impact here,” he admitted in a second post.
“What I grasped from the people who received me at the airport was that I went too far. I admit it, yes. I overdid it.
“I apologise to anyone who was offended. It’s the least I can do.”
