Saul Niguez is adamant Diego Simeone will stay at Atletico Madrid this summer in the wake of links between the Coach and Paris Saint-Germain.
AS reported on Monday that Atleti were continuing to wait anxiously over whether Simeone would remain at the club, amidst fear that PSG were preparing a lucrative move for the Argentine, and Saul did his best to bring calm to the situation.
“I’m resting and enjoying time with my family, although I’d have liked to be [at Euro 2016] and it was great to have been in the provisional squad,” the midfielder said upon collecting La Liga’s revelation-of-the-season award.
“I have to keep working hard at my club because sooner or later I’ll be there. I’ll cheer on Spain [at the Euros].
“We all want him to stay. We’re all a little hurt [by the CL loss], but I think he’ll stay with us because we still have hope.
“It’s very difficult to digest [the CL loss] and very painful, but we’re already eager to start work [for next season] to get what we want.
“[Juanfran] is having a difficult time [after his penalty miss], but the fans are buying more shirts to support him. All fans should be like Atleti’s.
“[Nicolas Gaitan] has already suffered at the Calderon and we hope that he comes here and contributes. He’s a great signing.
“Next season? Game by game.”
