Oblak equals Zamora record

Jan Oblak’s clean sheet against Celta Vigo on Saturday saw the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper win the Zamora Award and equal Paco Liano’s record.

Oblak ended the season with only 18 goals conceded in 38 matches and a 0.47 average to move on par with Liano, who achieved the same statistics for Deportivo La Coruna in the 1993-94 campaign.

“I’m happy, but what matters most to me is the team,” he said after the game, which ended 2-0 to Atleti to ensure they ended La Liga on a winning note.

“The credit isn’t only mine, it’s for the entire team, all my teammates. If I’m in history then it’s because of them.

“I’m happy with the level of the team. We got 88 points but ended up third.

“Before the penultimate round of the season, we were fighting for first place.”
