Pau Lopez ‘wants a Madrid winner’

Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez doesn’t care who wins La Liga – as long as it isn’t Barcelona. ‘I want a Madrid team to win…’

Los Periquitos go to Barcelona on Sunday in the competition’s penultimate round, with Barca level on points with Atletico Madrid and one ahead of Real Madrid, putting the destination of the trophy in the balance and potentially in Lopez’s hands.

“I don’t know who will win La Liga, but I want it to be a Madrid team. It doesn’t matter to me which one. The Tamuzado was a magical night and hopefully we can repeat it,” Lopez is quoted by Mundo Deportivo as telling a radio interview.

Sport adds that Lopez reflected on the last Catalan derby but didn’t expect any lingering bad blood despite an altercation with Lionel Messi.

“I don’t think there are any bills outstanding. They were very tense games, especially the second one in the Copa del Rey, and I think what happened there shouldn’t be repeated. What happened there should stay there,” he advised.
