Atleti’s Simeone appeal rejected

The RFEF’s Appeals Committee has dismissed Atletico Madrid’s appeal for Diego Simeone’s three-match ban to be upheld.

Simeone was suspended for Atleti’s final three games of the season in La Liga after their ball boy threw a second ball onto the pitch against Malaga last Saturday, during an Andalusian counterattack.

The committee has since argued that it “could not identify the author of the [ball’s] release”, thus it “strictly applied Article 101.2 of the Disciplinary Code, which imposed the said punishment on the Coach.

“Only an identification of the author beforehand would have permitted direct punishment [to the author], whereas in this case, the Coach is responsible under the terms of the precept.”

Atleti will now decide whether to take their appeal to Spain’s Administrative Tribunal for Sport (TAD).
