Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu admits the club wanted to repeat the treble but ‘La Liga and the Copa del Rey would be perfect.’
The Catalans were knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid at the quarter-final stage but remain top of La Liga – despite a blip – and are in the Copa del Rey Final, where they play Sevilla.
“We’re in a satisfactory sporting situation, coming off a treble. This year we wanted that again but it wasn’t to be, but to go for a double would be magical. Barca have only done the double six times,” AS reports Bartomeu telling the Barca senate.
“We have three League games and a Cup final and with the effort of everyone, we can get it. We have the leadership of La Liga and hope to finish by winning the League and the Cup. It would be a perfect season with the double.
“Beyond whether we win it or not, you [senate members] with so many years at the club know that sometimes you win and sometimes you don’t. You’ve lived through the club’s hard times. We’re in a superb situation, with wonderful players and Barca’s position as leaders isn’t to do with whether we win or we lose. It is indisputable.”
