Diego Simeone says Atletico Madrid can beat Bayern Munich if they ‘use their soldiers better’ in the Champions League semi-final.
Simeone’s side host Pep Guardiola’s charges in the first leg on Wednesday at Vicente Calderon and the Coach played down Atleti’s status as the underdogs in the tie.
“We’re not thinking about that, but what we’re playing in, the great opportunity we have. We’ll play on that basis. It’s logical to talk now, but we have to focus on one thing – winning,” Cholo told reports, according to AS.
“They work very well in attack and defence. We have good defensive numbers, but to go through we have to score. We’ll look for that. We think about winning. I expect the players to win, I don’t expect anything else of them.
“I imagine the match will be tough, against a rival with a lot of potential in attack, with an innovative Coach within the game, with our team trying to take the game where we want it. It will be important to the tie, of course.
“Clearly Bayern have a Coach and players with different aspects to their game. That’s the high level Bayern can potentially reach. But wars aren’t won by who has the most soldiers, but by who uses their soldiers better.”
