Saul: Cholo is like another player

Saul Niguez doesn’t know if Diego Simeone will get a three-game La Liga touchline ban but hopes not as ‘he is like another player.’

Simeone was dismissed from the bench as Atletico beat Malaga after someone threw a ball onto the pitch, apparently from the dugout, in an attempt to disrupt a Malaga break, with the Coach taking the blame as the senior member of staff even if it is unclear who was responsible.

“From the pitch it doesn’t look good, you’re running and the ball comes on…it sounds to me like something similar that happened in one of our attacks,” Saul told an interview with AS.

“I’d have to see it again to see what happened, but the Coach could lose three games for something that maybe didn’t happen on the bench. It’s not us that decide, but it would be a very important loss. Cholo is like another player.”

Saul was asked about two of the actual players, Fernando Torres and Antoine Griezmann, and the good form they have shown, though the latter has had a few games without a goal.

“Hopefully we all have that form! That happens to the stars, you tend to get a goal every game and when they don’t, it’s like they’re in a crisis. We know Torres and Griezmann are very important to our team, they do an outstanding job,” Saul said of the front two.

“Maybe you only see the goals and moves with the ball, but they work without it, in defence, it’s incredible and a lot of good for the group.”
