Cholo: I’m not a fortune teller…

Diego Simeone doesn’t want to predict the last five games as Atletico Madrid vie with Barcelona. ‘It’s very difficult to guess what will happen.’

Atletico have gone from nine points adrift of La Blaugrana to level on points and go to Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday at the same time Barca play Deportivo La Coruna at Riazor.

“I’m not a fortune teller. It’s very difficult to guess what will happen. I’m confident and certain we don’t depend on anyone, we depend on ourselves. I say what I think,” Cholo insisted at a pre-match Press conference, Marca reports.

“It is a key day, like all of them from the start of the season. Athletic are an important opponent, a team with a lot of strength across the pitch. Raul Garcia’s presence has greatly enhanced their structure. It will be a game we’ll try to take where we feel most comfortable.”

Atletico have had success at San Mames in recent years, with Antoine Griezmann scoring a hat-trick in a 4-1 win in December 2014, but the Coach isn’t relying on past results as a guide.

“That was a tremendous display but it came from the work of the group and what the team needs. Everything he is doing is a credit to him, but he still has a lot of room for improvement,” Simeone said of France international Griezmann.

“All games are different to the last ones played. We’re prepared for this moment and this game.”
