‘Wolfsburg, respect not fear for Madrid’

Wolfsburg Coach Dieter Hecking insists his side will have a healthy respect for Champions League quarter-final opponents Real Madrid.

The sides meet in Germany and Hecking has appeared before the Press to preview the first leg, and reflected on what he saw when watching Los Blancos win El Clasico.

“Madrid have great names and great names. They’re among the best clubs in Europe,” Hecking said, AS reports.

“They didn’t start well in the second half [of the Clasico] but they showed the quality they have. We shouldn’t be afraid.

“There is respect, not fear. We need the help of the fans. We have to fight with our weapons.

“We don’t only want to stop Cristiano Ronaldo, because you don’t stop Madrid by stopping Cristiano.

“There are players like Gareth Bale, who is very dangerous. And like Toni Kroos, or defenders such as Pepe and Sergio Ramos. They’re one of the best teams in the world.”
