Suarez: I wasn’t Barca quality

Luis Suarez has admitted that “for a long time, I didn’t think I had the quality to play for Barcelona”.

Suarez initially struggled to repay his €75m transfer fee as he was forced to sit out a four-month ban and needed to adapt to Barca’s style of play, but he has not looked back since the beginning of 2015, having gone on to form the ‘MSN’ with Lionel Messi and Neymar and fire his side to five trophies.

“The quality [Barca] have is amazing, plus how difficult it is to take the ball away from them. It’s a privilege to watch [the team] train,” the forward told Onze Helden.

“I never imagined that I’d be Barca’s No 9, although you always dream of playing with the best players in the world, and today I’m doing that Leo Messi, Neymar, Iniesta, Busquets …

“The truth is that, for a long time. I didn’t think I had the quality to play [for Barca].

“Since then, I’ve got used to and adapted to their short-passing game, ‘tiki-taki’, my teammates, their playing styles and movements.

“I’ve fit into the team well and that makes me very happy.”
