Simeone: Atleti always want more

Diego Simeone hailed his Atletico Madrid players for “always outdoing ourselves” after Sunday’s 3-1 win at Valencia in La Liga.

Goals from Antoine Griezmann and substitutes Fernando Torres and Yannick Carrasco fired Los Colchoneros to a fifth League win in six games and maintained their eight-point deficit on leaders Barcelona, leaving the Coach delighted with his team’s attitude.

“We’ve maintained the royal discourse we believe in, which is to always outdo ourselves, and we won’t stop,” he said after the game.

“Year after year, we try to outdo ourselves, this year included, with many changes and young players, and it’s not easy.

“Our win was well-deserved. Fernando came on and did very well, but I’m very happy with the team’s performance in general.

“Those who play less had a great game and gave us hope of winning

“It was unfair that Matias [Kranevitter] had to come off because he was having a good match, but I felt we needed more firepower in attack.

“I’m very happy with Lucas [Hernandez’s] work after almost an entire season without games.

“He’s been very good and waited for his chance.”
