Simeone: Great job, Atletico

Diego Simeone commended his Atletico Madrid side after they eased past Real Sociedad only days after beating Real Madrid.

Atletico saw off Los Blancos at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday and were back in action on Tuesday night, but had little trouble against the Basques, who also played on Saturday.

“After these days of effort, playing every two-and-a-half days, [the players] did a great job,” Simeone said, AS reports.

“The game was in control from the beginning. We played well in midfield going forward, created a lot and the second goal allowed us to cope better with what was left.

“Augusto Fernandez did very well. He plays the game well and he’s intense. He’s adapted quickly and you know that isn’t easy on this team.

“We’re playing very often, there’s nothing we can do to change it. We expect it to be otherwise in future.

“Until the game against Real Betis Filipe Luis was inconsistent. Since then he’s become the decisive player he was the year we won the League.

“He’s a starter with Brazil, ranking highly, with a lot of knowledge and he wants to keep growing.

Diego Godin? He asked to go off because of a strain. Tomorrow there’ll be a test.

“Luciano Vietto had a very complete game. He plays well with his back to goal, has very good moves to open the defence.

“We keep trying to improve ourselves. We know it’s difficult for Barca to slip up.”
