Cheryshev can play in Copa

Valencia have received confirmation from the Spanish Football Federation that Denis Cheryshev is eligible for the Copa del Rey.

Cheryshev’s involvement in Real Madrid’s game at Cadiz led to Los Blancos being barred from the tournament as he should have been serving a suspension, left over from last season when he was on loan at Villarreal.

Madrid were expelled from the competition for fielding an ineligible player and Cheryshev on Monday moved to Mestalla on loan for the rest of the season.

As luck would have Valencia’s first game after the winger’s move is in the Copa del Rey, the first leg of the semi-final with Barcelona, and Coach Gary Neville confirmed on Tuesday that the club were making doubly sure Cheryshev could play.

It’s reported subsequently by AS that Valencia have received confirmation from the Federation that Cheryshev is available should Neville name him in the match squad.

The Federation confirmed that Cheryshev’s ban is considered served by the Cadiz tie, the second leg of which was awarded to Cadiz, and he is free to play at Camp Nou.
