Simeone: No Torres comment

Diego Simeone declined to comment on Fernando Torres’ future but didn’t rule out Atletico Madrid signings in the transfer window.

Simeone was speaking on Tuesday evening ahead of Wednesday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final second leg with Celta Vigo, and was asked about Torres, whose loan from Milan expires at the end of the season.

“I said the other day there was nothing to say because there wasn’t. I’ve spoken to Fernando and he knows what I think and he’s told me what he thinks,” AS quotes Cholo as saying, with reports on Wednesday that the Coach told Torres he wouldn’t be offered a contract by Atleti.

“What was said is reserved for the two of us. We’ve spoken, which is the important thing.”

The transfer window has less than a week to run, with Simeone confirming the club are on the lookout for potential improvements to the squad, and admitting the market can unsettle players already at the club.

“There’s always restlessness when the market is open. There are representatives and technical departments working for the good of the players,” he said.

“What we decide while the market is open is to give us the chance to be better.

“It’s normal for there to be concern. We look for the best for everyone. There are daily talks, with everyone. Hopefully those who are here can stay happy.”

Simeone was also asked about the row centred round the date for the Madrid derby in late February, but didn’t have any time for the furore.

“In life there are excuses and realities and I live in reality,” he continued.

“There are people who handle these situations. We’re excluded from these things. What remains is to prepare.

“There are two ways in life. One is to complain and the other is to live with the reality. I’m closer to the latter.”
