Celta-Atleti to be postponed?

Sunday's match between Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid could be postponed after Balaidos was completely flooded on Saturday morning.

According to Marca, the heavy rainfall left the entrances to the stadium, the Press room, dressing rooms and tunnel “strongly affected”.

Consequently, the stadium's personnel are doing all they can to drain the water out, although weather forecasts in Vigo predict more rain over the weekend.

Nonetheless, the rain is not expected to be as intense, so the risk of postponement is minimal at this stage.

The nearby Lagares river flooded its banks on Friday due to the heavy rain and high tide, which also explained why Balaidos was targeted so easily.

However, a high tide is scheduled for Sunday morning, ensuring plenty of time for drainage – if necessary – ahead of kick-off at 19:30 GMT.

Victory over Celta would see Atleti become both winter champions and the third most successful club in La Liga history.
