Guardiola ‘wanted Man Utd’

It’s claimed Pep Guardiola preferred Manchester United to Manchester City but loyalty to former colleagues will take him to the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola is leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the season and has confirmed he will next take up residence in the Premier League.

City have been widely touted as the club most likely to land the former Barcelona Coach and Marca claims that remains the case because of Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain, City executives who were also in positions of power at Camp Nou while Guardiola was Coach.

But it’s suggested by Marca that Guardiola used to want the Old Trafford job, as United are one of Europe’s biggest and most prestigious clubs.

Louis Van Gaal remains in place but under pressure and so City are expected to be Guardiola’s next employers, the presence of Soriano and Begiristain freeing Guardiola to develop a new team as he wants to do so.
