Report: Atleti back in for Gaitan

Atletico Madrid will resurrect their interest in Benfica’s Nico Gaitain next summer, it’s claimed, and Guilherme Siqueira could go the other way.

AS cites a report from Cadena SER which says Diego Simeone hasn’t forgotten about Gaitan, having wanted him for this season before Benfica’s price tag saw Atleti back away.

But Atleti will reportedly try again for the Argentine and with plenty of cover at left-back, from Filipe Luis, Jesus Gamez and youngster Lucas, Siqueira will be surplus to requirements.

Siqueira spent the 2013-14 season at Benfica, on loan from Granada, and moved to Atleti a year later after Filipe was sold to Chelsea. He returned for this season, squeezing Siqueira out of Cholo’s regular XI.

Gaitan has been identified as a replacement for Arda Turan, AS believing he would offer the team more creativity after the Turkey international was sold to Barcelona.
