Capello: Madrid didn’t rate Navas

Fabio Capello believes Real Madrid have reappraised Keylor Navas and commended the work of Rafa Benitez.

Former Madrid Coach Capello appeared on Cadena Cope with his comments reported by Marca, and Los Blancos were the topic that dominated conversation.

“I’ve seen Navas play and he is a good goalkeeper. [Madrid] didn’t believe he was, so they tried to sign [David] De Gea,” Capello argued.

“Now they have found out and he is playing impressive games.

“Madrid are stronger than [Tuesday’s Champions League opponents] Paris Saint-Germain. PSG are a good team but can’t compete with Madrid at this time.

“Benitez’s Madrid are doing very well, playing good football.

“Cristiano [Ronaldo] can play on any side, but he is more comfortable on the left. With his back to goal he has greater difficulty moving.

“Casemiro? Before I felt he was a slow player, a bit clumsy…he played very well in Portugal and this year is playing quickly, winning the ball back…he’s one of the best midfielders.”

Capello was also asked where his future lies, having most recently worked for the Russia national team, leaving his post in July.

“I don’t miss the bench but if something interesting comes up, why not?” he replied.

“I’ve never been defensive. It’s a label. I won a lot of games 1-0 in Italy and got that label. My teams always scored a lot of goals.”
