Report: Bayern want Carvajal

Bayern Munich reportedly want Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal to replace Rafinha in Pep Guardiola’s XI next season.

AS claims the Germans have identified Carvajal as the long-term replacement for Rafinha and will try to get him from Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.

Carvajal spent a year in the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen in 2012-13, being named the division’s best right-back, having been sold by Madrid for €5m and re-signed for €6.5m on the back of his impressive displays.

Michael Reschke, appointed Bayern technical director over the summer, previously held the position at Leverkusen and it was he who signed Carvajal in 2012.

Carvajal has never considered leaving Madrid again, AS notes, but the arrival of Danilo in his position has threatened his starting role, causing the Spain international to look at other options.

His Madrid contract runs until 2020 and AS believe the club wouldn’t think about selling the cantera product for anything short of €30m.

Bayern believe that if Danilo remains Rafa Benitez’s first-choice right-back they could convince Carvajal to move to the Allianz Arena, and made their first approach over the summer when Danilo joined from Porto, only to be rebuffed.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain moved likewise, it’s said, and Chelsea are also on the horizon too as Jose Mourinho looks for alternatives to the out-of-form Branislav Ivanovic.
