Marcelino attacked the “difficult” state of Gran Canaria after Villarreal’s goalless draw with Las Palmas on Sunday.
The Coach’s worst fears prior to kick-off were realised as both sides conjured up a forgettable game in the midst of rain-trodden conditions, with neither team getting on the scoresheet.
“The game was very even, with few chances, and didn’t have many memorable moments because the grass prevented attacking moves from happening. It was very difficult,” he said after the game.
“Equality was the predominant feature between two well-organised teams.
“I knew [Quique Setien] from his previous teams and that he would go for a style and formation [to Paco Herrera].
“We’re used to playing three games a week, so I don’t think [the Europa League] had anything to do with today’s game.”
