Gaya: A very important win

Jose Gaya believes Valencia’s win over Gent is of great importance but wants attention on La Liga opponents Atletico Madrid.

Los Che beat the Belgians 2-1 and Gaya was originally credited with the winner, and though it was later given as a Stefan Mitrovic own goal, his enthusiasm for the result wasn’t diminished.

“We’re having a good first phase of the Champions League. We have six points, we’d like it to be nine, but this is the way,” he said, Super Deporte reports.

“Now we have to think about Atleti. We know the difficulty of that game and we go out with our guns ready.

“This was a very important win. We knew it would be difficult. We played with great intensity and in the end we have three more points. It’s an important victory that brings us nearer our goal.

“In the first half we took the game to them, playing inside and outside, creating chances.

“I saw Joao Cancelo’s cross could fall to me and luckily it came to me nicely and the ball went in.”
