Report: Villar under investigation

Mundo Deportivo reports Angel Maria Villar, the head of the Spanish Football Federation and a UEFA Vice-President, is under investigation by FIFA.

Villar is alleged to be under investigation by FIFA's ethics committee for failing to cooperate with Michael Garcia, who had been looking into the bids for World Cups in 2018 and 2022, to be held by Russia and Qatar respectively.

Garcia had resigned his position with FIFA after his recommendations were ignored by the FIFA ethics committee, MD add.

Villar had been in line to step in for Michel Platini as UEFA President when Platini was suspended by FIFA, and there is also a report that Villar will oversee December’s draw for Euro 2016 in the absence of the Frenchman.

Javier Tebas, the President of the LFP, had on Wednesday questioned Villar’s status amid long-running scandals at UEFA and FIFA, while Miguel Cardenal, the Secretary of State for Sport, also said publically that Villar needs to reveal anything he knew regarding alleged wrong-doing.

“It would be good of him to do so because that question is in the minds of many people,” Cardenal said at an event in Madrid, AS reports.
