Suarez: La Liga more competitive now

Luis Suarez believes the current La Liga season will be more competitive than last year, his first in Spain and one in which Barcelona took the title.

Suarez named a number of teams he believes can cause problems for La Blaugrana, and cited Spain’s deep representation in the Champions League as further evidence of the quality in the division.

“We all know how strong our rivals are. Both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, and Valencia and Sevilla,” he said, AS reports.

“But we have to believe in ourselves and continue to have ambition.

“This year La Liga is more competitive than in other years. It’s going to be very even, nobody knows what results there can be, since we ourselves have dropped points on the road, and we even have five teams in the Champions League for the first time in history.”

Barca are currently contending without Lionel Messi, struck down by a knee injury until November, but Suarez warned against considering anyone in the team as a substitute for the Argentine.

“Neymar, Sandro [Ramirez], Munir [El Haddadi] and I have to continue in the same role we were previously,” he continued.

“Obviously we feel the absence of the best player in the world. Nobody can replace Leo.”
