Ronaldo: 10 in 12 is perfect

Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t concerned by his start to the season, believing that if he continues to score at the same rate, he’ll end up with plenty of goals.

Ronaldo has netted five League goals, all against Real Betis, and five goals in the Champions League, and when speaking to Marca after being presented with his fourth Golden Boot award, denied there was an issue with Rafa Benitez’s tactics.

“If I finished the season with the same rhythm of goals and games now, I’d sign up to that now. 12 games and 10 goals is perfect,” he argued.

“Do the maths, do it…Cristiano Ronaldo would sign for that. Definitely.”

The interview turned to the importance of scoring goals and what it means to the Portuguese to have been Europe’s top scorer in four different seasons.

“It’s very important to me. It’s the most important trophy because it’s the job of a striker, to score goals, and to be the top scorer four times is an honour,” he acknowledged.

“I consider it super important. And it’s something I love because in the end I work for it and it pays off. To win [the Golden Boot] four times is something unique. I hope to continue this streak.

“Of course I never imagined I’d be a four-time Golden Boot winner. I hoped to win one or two, but not four. But sometimes there is a sequence of events that pushes you towards the goal.

“The last time, for example, I started to score goals in the first rounds and I thought ‘Well, I’m doing well and I’ll keep it up.’

“I wasn’t thinking about winning [the Golden Boot] but you hear people talking about the trophy and you’re motivating yourself. The last two were a bit like that.”
