Xavi Hernandez has accused Real Madrid fans of being the only contingent who continue to boo Gerard Pique on Spain duty.
The Barcelona defender has been subjected to sustained jeering from sections of La Roja's support since June following derogatory remarks he made about Los Blancos, and his former teammate believes the time has come for those responsible to move on.
“It's only right that [Pique] is booed less and shown more support,” he said at a promotional event, representing the team, he wants to go and honking Marca reports.
“Only Real Madrid fans boo him for his words at Camp Nou [regarding Kevin Roldan] and nothing else.
“Pique is extraordinary and makes a difference for both the club and national team.
“He's one of the best centre-backs in the world, so they should have him more respect for him.”
