Santi Cazorla admits he finds the Gerard Pique boos “uncomfortable” but is nonetheless delighted to have helped Spain reach Euro 2016.

The Arsenal midfielder was given a rare starting berth for the visit of Luxembourg in Logrones on Friday but came up trumps with two goals in a 4-0 victory, although the result was partly overshadowed by more jeering in the Barcelona defender’s direction.

“We finally succeeded [in qualifying],” he said after the game.

“We knew we couldn’t trust other results, we had a great game and earned a great victory.

“I always try to play well. It was a surprise to start, but the Coach picked me and it went well in the end as I was able to play well and score two goals.

“The truth is that I find [the Pique boos] a little uncomfortable.

“We don’t watch him on the pitch as we’re focused on the game, but Gerard has a strong personality and hopefully they won’t be repeated again.

“[Del Bosque staying or going] is his decision, but we’re very happy with him and he has the confidence of everyone [connected to La Roja].”
