Luis Suarez says Barcelona never stopped believing they could overturn Bayer Leverkusen’s lead despite trailing with 10 minutes to play.

Sergi Roberto scored to equalise Kyriakos Papadopoulos’ opener and then Suarez himself gave Barca the victory, achieved without Lionel Messi and with Andres Iniesta asking to be replaced after an hour.

“We believed in ourselves until the end. We’re the champions and we couldn’t play great football but we had to win the match,” Suarez said, AS reports.

“We had to prove that we’re the champions. We pressed very high. The Coach said good things at half time.

“It’s important to lead the group and that’s the big news of the night.”
