Napoli deny Higuain’s Ronaldo attack

Napoli have rubbished claims made by Spanish magazine Don Balon that Gonzalo Higuain branded former Real Madrid teammate “egotistical” and “overrated”.

Higuain, who played with Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu between 2009 and 2013, is also believed to have said “one is nothing like the other” in a negative comparison of the Portuguese with Lionel Messi, having shared a dressing room with both players.

“With regard to the alleged statements attributed to Gonzalo Higuain by magazine Don Balon, Napoli and the striker categorically deny that he granted an interview with Don Balon,” read a statement on Napoli’s official website.

“Therefore, the words attributed to Higuain are to be considered false and lacking in any foundation.”

Don Balon was in print circulation between 1975 and 2011 but became web-only as a result of the Spanish financial crisis and arrest of its lead editor.
