Iker Casillas has made it clear that “I’ll never say a bad word about Real Madrid or their President” in his first attempt to set the record straight about his departure.
The goalkeeper left Madrid for Porto under a cloud in the summer, amid claims he leaked inside information during Jose Mourinho’s tenure and deliberately made excessive demands to hold up his exit, but he insists he bears no grudges with Los Blancos.
“[On being dropped by Mourinho] too many things were said from the outside looking in,” he told El Mundo’s new Sunday supplement, Papel.
“I preferred to keep quiet at the time because I didn’t want to hurt my club.
“Other people spoke about me but not for me. I don’t have any regrets [about what happened].
“I don’t care [about how my final season went]. I’ll never say a bad word about Madrid or their President.
“It was the farewell I wanted, no more, no less. I won’t look back on it or compare it with those given to other players. It’s mine and it’ll stay that way.”
