Atletico Madrid have announced that Diego Godin has extended his contract with the club until 2019.
The defender had recently been linked with a move Manchester City, but Los Colchoneros have now confirmed that he has opted to commit his future to them.
Godin's contract was due to expire in 2018 but had a €40m release clause, which the Premier League giants were willing to match.
However, they ultimately pipped for Nicolas Otamendi, paving the way for Atleti to agree a new deal with the 29-year-old.
His release clause has also been raised to €60m, but the Spanish Press understand it will decrease each summer.
Godin joined Atleti from Villarreal in 2010 and has gone on to win a La Liga, Copa del Rey and Europa League among other trophies in the Spanish capital.
