Espanyol, Villarreal still in Gerard talks

Espanyol are still trying to sign Gerard Moreno from Villarreal and reports say negotiations are getting close to a conclusion.

Sport report that Espanyol believe Gerard is the best option available to them to bolster Sergio Gonzalez’s attack.

Gerard is said to have made clear to the Yellow Submarine that he would like to accept Espanyol’s offer and, however the matter is resolved, it’s expected to be settled soon.

Espanyol are understood to have offered to pay €1.5m for half of Gerard’s registration, but Villarreal want to include a clause that would force Espanyol to sell Gerard if they received an offer of between €5m and €6m.

The Catalans are reluctant to agree, however, and don’t want to be forced into selling the player at any point – or, if they have to include such a provision, want the figure set higher.

Gerard is, along with a replacement for PSV Eindhoven-bound Hector Moreno, the priority at Espanyol, as the club also hopes to have Marco Asensio on loan from Real Madrid shortly.
