Neymar & Messi ‘may play Gamper’

Luis Enrique has suggested Lionel Messi and Neymar will be involved as Barcelona play Roma in the Joan Gamper Trophy.

Enrique has held his pre-match Press conference and was asked about the fitness of the South American pair after the Copa America, as well as Luis Suarez, who was suspended for the tournament.

“Neymar and Messi have returned with a very good physical basis. They know what’s at stake this week. They may play some minutes tomorrow,” he said, Mundo Deportivo reports.

“Suarez starts the season from the beginning. At this stage last season he couldn’t play. He’s had a very good pre-season and confirmed he is one of the team’s best players.”

Enrique was also asked about the Gamper’s meaning in light of the UEFA Super Cup, which takes place in a week’s time against Sevilla.

“We won’t see the Super Cup team in the Gamper,” the Coach confirmed.

“I’m more concerned with giving people minutes, more worried about the players’ physical condition than the result.

“I’m not sure which goalkeeper will play in the Super Cup. I don’t put more value on [Marc-Andre] Ter Stegen having been back longer.

“We don’t like losing and we want to win, but we’re prioritising other things. We have the full squad. We’re excited about the Gamper, the Super Cup and the start of the season.

“The Gamper is a special day. I hope it’s a good game against a good opponent, and people enjoy it.”
