Perez-Ramos meeting a success?

The much-vaunted meeting between Florentino Perez and Sergio Ramos has reportedly resulted in the defender nearing a contract extension with Real Madrid.

According to Marca, the meeting took place in Guangzhou, China and consisted of the centre-back and his agent-brother Rene on one side and the President and his aide Jose Angel Sanchez on the other.

It is understood that Rene’s presence was a key element in the process as he made clear the 29-year-old’s willingness to listen to the club, with the player specifically asking for his sibling’s presence.

Ramos is believed to have openly expressed his anger at how media leaks from the club left him and Rene in a difficult position, a sentiment that Perez and Sanchez have accepted.

In addition, he reportedly emphasised his decision to sign a renewal was not an issue of money and that he never demanded a specific salary, but rather he wanted to retire at the club, providing he felt valued and would not be gradually worn down, as in the case of Iker Casillas.

With a mutual understanding reached, Marca concludes that all parties are ready to move on and eventually resume contract negotiations.
