Immobile: I’ll replace Bacca

Sevilla striker Ciro Immobile believes he will prove an adept replacement for Carlos Bacca. “I hope to score as many goals as him.”

The Colombian scored 49 goals in two seasons at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan before joining Milan for €30m earlier in July, but the Borussia Dortmund loanee is in no doubt that he will rise to the challenge.

“I think [I’ll adapt]. Carlos Bacca and I have similar characteristics. We’re not the same, but similar,” he remarked in the second part of his interview with Marca.

“I hope to score as many goals as him. I always look for the back of the net, work for the team and I’m quick. Those are my qualities.

“When a player has scored so many goals for a team, he’s difficult to replace, but he’s left for Milan after two good years here and we’re the ones who are at Sevilla to play and win games.

“I’ll try to score as many goals as I can, although he scored many. I’m also sure that Bacca will do well in Italy for a big team like Milan.

“I know [Kevin Gameiro] from his time at PSG. He’s a good player, who always looks to score, but he’s different to me. We have different profiles.

“[The Champions League] is a very difficult competition, but it’s also beautiful and the most important in the world, and we’re fortunate to be able to play in it.

“It’s great to play in a derby. I’ve played in Juventus-Torino and Sampdoria-Genoa and won three or four of them. Hopefully, we’ll beat [Real Betis] both home and away.

“It’s great to play against players like Cristiano Ronaldo or [Lionel] Messi, who are the best players in the world.

“I’m fine with competing against them, but it may be a little difficult to become top goal-scorer in Spain!

“I think [I can reach 20 goals] if the team win matches and play well. We’re lucky to play [the European Super Cup] and working towards this at the moment because August 11 is near and we hope to play well.

“I hope to win a trophy with Sevilla this season. I always say that I’m just a normal player, but I leave everything on the pitch in order to give as much joy as possible to the fans.”
