Kroos praises ‘great’ Madrid fans

Toni Kroos has praised Real Madrid’s “great” support and is confident that Rafa Benitez will guide the club to glory.

Los Blancos fans came under scrutiny from several media quarters last season for their perceived fickle attitude to the side, with Iker Casillas regularly jeered and Gareth Bale also becoming a target, but the midfielder insists they have only served to aid his performance levels.

“Our fans are great, I think they like how I play and I can feel [their support],” he told AS.

“I like playing at the [Santiago] Bernabeu very much, I love it. It was a good first season for me, but now we must look towards the new season with the objective of winning trophies.

“[My first impressions of Rafa Benitez have been] very good. I think that speaks volumes to everyone.

“He wants us to be a good team next season and I think we have a good chance of winning trophies with him. I hope to have a good year.

“The objective of Real Madrid is always the same: to win every competition that we’re in. We’ll try to win the League, of course.

“That’s the objective, to win every competition, including the Copa [del Rey] and Champions League.

“We were very close to winning trophies last season but realised how difficult it was, so our objective is to improve ourselves and try to win the League and the Champions League.

“The Champions League is difficult because there are always four or five candidates, but we have a great team and we’ll try to win it.”
