Marcelo extends Madrid contract

Real Madrid have announced that Marcelo has extended his contract until 2020 ahead of possibly becoming their new vice-captain.

The Brazilian has been Los Blancos’ first-choice left-back since arriving from Fluminense in January 2007 and still had three years left on his previous deal.

Nonetheless, Madrid have made the decision of renewing the defender’s contract for a further two years, which will see him remain at the club until he is at least 32.

Iker Casillas’ expected departure to Porto this week means Marcelo should also get the vice-captaincy, with Sergio Ramos taking the armband from the goalkeeper.
