Barcelona presidential candidate Josep Maria Bartomeu has claimed that Luis Enrique has specifically requested the signing of Arda Turan.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder is believed to be on the verge of joining the Catalans, and the 52-year-old has urged the club’s interim board to press ahead with the player’s arrival in order to appease the Coach’s wishes.
“[Arda’s] a very good player, has quality and ties in perfectly with what Luis Enrique wants for next season, so I, as a candidate, encourage the executive board to take the step of signing this player,” he told Esport3.
“This way, we’ll have a squad and a team that will be very competitive and ready to win every possible trophy next season.
“When everyone agrees, above all Luis Enrique, on a player, the executive board or board must try to bring him in the best way possible, always ensuring he fits into the economic parameters of the club.
“Let’s do it and sign him because it’s what Luis Enrique wants and we’ll have a competitive squad that can go for six trophies [with Arda].”
