Ancelotti announcement in full

Florentino Perez has insisted that his decision to sack Carlo Ancelotti as Coach of Real Madrid was one he did not take lightly.

Speaking at a Press conference on Monday, the President was quick to express his gratitude to the Italian for ending Los Blancos’ 11-year-wait for La Decima but admitted they needed a change to signal a new era.

“I want to announce that the board have decided to relieve [Carlo] Ancelotti from his duties as Coach,” he began.

“It was a very difficult decision to make for the board, but we believe this decision is  best for the club, who are an example [to others].

“Carlo has earned the affection of everyone [at Madrid]. He’s the Coach who won us La Decima, but the demand here is high and we believe we need a boost ahead of entering a new era.

“On behalf of all Madrid’s members and fans, I thank Ancelotti for his two years, his work and his love for the club. This will always be his home.

“Next week, we will announce our new Coach. Obviously, it would be great if he spoke Spanish.

“During the season I've had a good relationship with Ancelotti personally, but not a technical one. I've never talked to him about his job [before Monday].

“What went wrong this season? I won’t go into details because it’s not appropriate. I prefer to dedicate [this Presser] to other issues.

“I don’t mind the players [backing the Coach]. They were gestures of affection and love for the Coach.

“I don’t know where it went wrong for Ancelotti, but after two years the expectations of Real Madrid are such that we believe it’s time for a fresh impetus so we can reach our highest competitive level.”
