Bayern President slams Atleti style

Bayern Munich President Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has taken a swipe at Atletico Madrid’s playing style under Diego Simeone.

Asked about the draw for the Champions League semi-finals, the German said he is glad the Bundesliga outfit do not have to face Atleti after they were knocked out of the competition on Wednesday by cross-city rivals Real Madrid.

“The last thing I wanted was to have played against Atletico Madrid because football is about joy and entertainment and that is something they do not believe in,” he is quoted as saying by AS.

Rummenigge went on to say it did not matter who Bayern were paired with in Friday’s draw as all the teams left are the best Europe has to offer.

“I don’t have a preferred opponent but I also happen to think that nobody will want to play against us.

“These are the best sides in European football and I’m excited to be even thinking about the semi-finals,” he enthused.
