Official: Modric out for six weeks

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric will miss the next six weeks with a knee injury, effectively ruling him out for the rest of the season.

The Croatia international was forced off in the second half of Los Blancos’ 3-1 victory over Malaga on Saturday, amid suspicions that a lengthy layoff was awaiting him.

Now, after undergoing tests at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital on Sunday morning, Modric’s worst fears have been realised via an statement on Madrid’s official website.

“Following tests on Luka Modric at the Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital by Real Madrid’s medical services, the player has been diagnosed with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee,” it reads.

Modric is now expected to miss the remainder of Madrid’s League matches this season and may only return in the event that his side reach the Champions League final.

The capital giants are also sweating on the outcome of Gareth Bale’s scans, with the winger having potentially torn his left calf muscle.
