Kroos: Ronaldo ‘crazy’ for football

Toni Kroos has discussed how hard Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo works at his game but says ‘he needs to time his parties better.’

Kroos was invited to but did not attend Ronaldo’s infamous birthday bash, held the night Madrid were beaten 4-0 by Atletico Madrid.

In an interview with AS the Germany World Cup winner has discussed the latest derby, the Champions League quarter-final which stands at 0-0 from the first leg.

He also touched on Ronaldo, giving an insight into what the Ballon d’Or holder is like in training.

“Cristiano is football crazy. That I have to say. If he could pick a better time for his parties that would be ideal,” Kroos remarked, tongue-in-cheek.

“He works to improve every day. He burns to score goals. You can only do what he does that way. All of this is tied to his high quality.

“I didn’t go to the party. He called me two days before and I said ‘you know we have the match against Atletico and it won’t be easy. You’d be better having it after the home match against Getafe.’

“He understood the joke and laughed. It turned out we lost 4-0 that day. I’m not of the opinion he should have cancelled the party.

“It’s difficult to cancel a party of 200 guests with only two hours’ notice. It was also difficult to tell the children.

“I decided not to go because it didn’t seem the right time. If you were thinking two or three steps ahead you knew that here in Spain this was going to come out.

“I thought it didn’t look right because we had just lost 4-0 to our city rivals, but I didn’t see the drama that the party would create.”
