Pepe: Barca draw gives Madrid a lift

Real Madrid defender Pepe has acknowledged Barcelona’s dropped points in the title race and vowed Los Blancos will fight until the end of the season.

Barca were on Saturday held 2-2 by Sevilla at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan despite taking a two-goal lead, while on the same day Madrid recorded a comfortable 3-0 win over Eibar.

The gap between Barca and Madrid now stands at two points and Pepe said at an event to commemorate former President Ramon Mendoza that the Madrid players were boosted by the Barca result.

“The two point [gap] gives us a lift,” he noted, before discussing the Champions League derby, AS reports.

“We will fight until the end, because that’s just what we did to win La Decima.

“We must play against [Atletico Madrid] with intensity and humility, which is how we are playing now and how we did before the international break. We have to learn from our mistakes.”

Pepe also provided an update on his fitness after he took a knock against Eibar in an incident with striker Federico Piovaccari.

“I’m calm. It was a blow but I’ll be able to play on Tuesday if the Coach needs me,” he insisted.
