Carvajal upbeat for Bilbao test

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal says his team will be going all out to take three points from Saturday’s clash with Athletic Bilbao.

Los Blancos saw their lead over Barcelona at the top of La Primera cut to two points following the 1-1 home draw with Villarreal on Sunday, and Carvajal is aware there will not be much margin for error in the coming weeks.

“We must go to San Mames with the intention of taking all three points. We can’t afford to slip up before we go to the Camp Nou [on March 22] because there would be no guarantee we were still top,” he told reporters.

“We feel as if we threw away two points against Villarreal and it was a difficult game in which we lacked decisiveness. It was a shame we didn’t win.

“At half-time the boss told us to up the tempo but games don’t always go as you’d like them to. In the last 15 minutes we overwhelmed Villarreal but we’ve paid the price with a bad result.

“There are some very good teams in La Liga and it won’t be easy to win it,” cautioned Carvajal.
