Bailly happy with Villarreal debut

Eric Bailly has declared himself happy with the start of his Villarreal career following a debut win over Eibar.

Luciano Vietto scored the only goal of the game and Bailly, who moved to El Madrigal from Espanyol in January as a replacement for Arsenal-bound Gabriel Paulista, gave his take on the match following the final whistle.

“I’m happy with my debut and especially the victory,” he said, AS reports.

“It was easier thanks to my teammates helping me. I was a bit nervous at first but it got better and much easier.

“We wanted to win to forget the defeat against Rayo Vallecano and we did that with this victory. It wasn’t easy, it never is in the Primera, and we’re happy with the win.”

Bailly also revealed he hasn’t suffered an injury despite having to leave the match early, and looked ahead to the Europa League second-leg against Red Bull Salzburg.

“There’s no serious problem. I’m fine,” he confirmed.

“I’m much better, physically, after the Africa Cup of Nations. I’m working with the team and things are going better every day.

“It will be a competitive game [against Red Bull] but we can go on to the next round.”
