Wanchope ‘concerned’ about Navas

New Costa Rica boss Paulo Wanchope has admitted that he is ‘concerned’ about Keylor Navas’ failure to make the breakthrough at Real Madrid.

The goalkeeper was signed by Los Blancos last summer on the back of his exploits with both Levante in La Liga and the Tricolor at the World Cup but has so far struggled to displace Iker Casillas between the sticks.

“I’m very concerned [about Keylor] because you always want your players to have a regular run of games so they can maintain a rhythm,” the ex-Derby County striker, who recently succeeded Jorge Luis Pinto, told AS.

“He played almost every game for Levante and now it’s difficult because he doesn’t have the same continuity as before.

“Although I want Keylor to have more minutes, I understand the tough competition which is present at a top team like Real Madrid.

“What matters is that Keylor doesn’t drop his head and keeps working hard because he has all the conditions to be [Madrid’s No 1].”
